Why Celebrate Advent?

     God makes a promise,

          Faith believes His promise,

     Hope anticipates its fulfillment,

          Patience quietly waits.

advent_wide_tWe’ve looked at what Advent is, the things that are involved for us corporately as well as individually in celebrating but we’re left with one last question: Why Celebrate Advent as a church?

Simply put, celebrating Advent helps us to REMEMBER WELL.

While celebrating Advent isn’t on par with the Sacraments in the church, such as celebrating communion, it is a tool to help us pause and remember the anticipation of the Messiah. This anticipation then informs our waiting for the second coming.

My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
 and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
 when I remember you upon my bed,
 and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
 for you have been my help,
 and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
 My soul clings to you;
 your right hand upholds me.
(Psalm 63:5-8 ESV)

As a church we’ve long sought ways to better reflect on:
The Awesome Wonder of God the Father
The Love of Christ in laying down His perfect life and defeating the grave through resurrection
The Seal of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives bringing forth fruit, pointing us all the more to Christ and giving us power for life and godliness.

We are choosing to slow down these weeks leading up to Christmas, allowing us to pause, reflect, and celebrate the GIFT that Jesus is to us.

Join us as we begin this celebration this Sunday, November 30th at 10am!
