Alive Update: The Word At Work

Last night we started our three-lesson study on God’s Word.

lightstock_60863_xsmall_user_3586528This first lesson was entitled “The Word At Work,” and its purpose was to help us gain a more full understanding of what we mean by God’s Word, as well as challenging us to evaluate our own attitudes toward the Bible and the role it plays in our lives.

We looked at the following Scripture passages:

• Genesis 1:1-3

• Psalm 33:6

• Matthew 8:23-27

• Genesis 12:1-4

• Mark 1:16-20

• 2 Timothy 3:16-17

• Isaiah 55:10-11

Please take a few minutes this week to read these passages that helped us learn more about God’s Word.

Next Steps . . .

As you’re going about life over the course of the next few days, strike up a some conversation with your teenager using these or similar questions:

• You were asked in your youth group time to talk about your attitude toward studying the Bible. What did you say? (Make it a point to share your own attitude about engaging with the Bible. If it could be more positive, work with your teenager to make some changes together. If it’s in a healthy place, help your child know how you got to this place.)

• Can you do the right thing and still be motivated by the wrong reasons? Do you think God wants you to read your Bible out of a sense of obligation or habit? Or something deeper? Just food for thought . . .

• As a family, how do we do at elevating God’s Word to a place of importance in our daily lives? What are some “doable” actions we can take to make God’s Word more of a priority for us?
